Getting to Know Me
Hello!
My name is Sarah Flaherty. I am currently pursuing my Master's in Special Education at Dominican University. I have been working as a paraprofessional in a few different special education classroom settings since 2014. I currently work in a K-3 multi-needs classroom in Darien, IL.

I am very excited to take EDU 776 Integrating Technology! Despite working with Smartboards, iPads, and communication devices daily, I consider myself "technologically challenged". Creating this blog seemed like a daunting task, but I look forward to practicing and learning new things.
Some of my favorite ways we've integrated technology into the classroom are: Teachtown for social skills, Starfall for math and reading skills, and GoNoodle directed movement breaks.

Technology has been an invaluable tool for my students and their families. Things like touchscreens, voice recognition, and video modeling have made it easier and more engaging for students to learn materials.

-Before becoming a paraprofessional, I received my Bachelor's of Science in Public Health from Tulane University in Louisiana.
-I have two, crazy dogs.
-I have a big family- 3 siblings and about 30 cousins.
-I love to run, do yoga, see movies, cook, and draw in my free time.

To find out more about me:

Hi Sarah. Isn't is amazing how technology can enhance a classroom?! Thanks for letting me know some of the tools you've used so far. I'm hoping to show you a few more along the way. Looking forward to learning with you this summer!
ReplyDeleteSarah! I didn't know you went to Tulane! How did I never discover this?? I'm in Louisiana every few months :) I loved your blog- and your Halloween costume. I do think technology is invaluable for students, especially students with special needs. It can bridge so many gaps, or be that factor that really helps them communicate or understand!
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah!
ReplyDeleteWe're on the same blogging journey. It wasn't until the coursework through Dominican that I became a little bit more aware of how they work. Before that I never considered blogging at all. In my classroom GoNoodle is a must. Students love the brain breaks and movement, especially during the bleak winter months. Also thank you for sharing Violet and Stella with us, they're adorable!
